Ed Mooney Campaign Message
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
I write to you today to announce my candidacy for President of CWA and to humbly ask for your support.
This June, I’m celebrating 35 years of holding the most important title this union ever gave me: “Member.” Member is the title that has made every position I have been entrusted with possible. It was signing that union card and accepting the responsibility of being a member of Local 13000 that allowed me to become a Union Representative and work my way up eventually to hold the position of President of Local 13000. It was being a member which allowed me to become the District 13 VP in 2008 and then VP of the combined District 2-13 in 2011, a position which I am honored to hold to this day.
My belief that I am first and foremost a member of this great union grounds me in my commitment to all CWA members—all Districts, all Sectors, all units large or small.
In my first days as a Local 13000 member, my coworkers taught me that we all have a responsibility to each other to make this union as strong as we can. That’s why I’m running.
When people called me to ask me to run for CWA President, I applied the question my mentor Mike Sowicz shared with me years ago. He said, “Whenever you’re at a crossroads, ask yourself this question: ‘Is what I am about to do the best thing for the members of the union?’ Not the best thing for you, but for the members of the Union. If you can honestly answer ‘Yes,’ then that’s what you do.”
Over the coming months, I look forward to speaking with Local officers and delegates to hear about the issues that are important to you and the members you are elected to represent.
I also encourage you to reach out to the officers, staff and members of the locals throughout District 2-13 who I’m proud to represent for an honest view of how I lead and who I am.
I look forward to earning your support. If you have questions, you can reach me at email@example.com. You can also submit questions here, and if you’re ready you can endorse my campaign using this form.
Together, we will lay the groundwork and vision for the future of CWA.
In Solidarity, Ed Mooney
